Learn a little more about Stacey Watkins and Skin101.

When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was little I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry. I first tried my hand at being a hair stylist. When that did not work out, I went to work for a non-profit childcare center. I've always loved kids and that way I could take my son to work with me every day.

What led you to being an esthetician?

I really missed the beauty industry, so after having my daughter in 2003, I went back to aesthetics school. After graduation from Hanover Park College of Beauty, I started my Aesthetics Career at ZANO Salons where they had a wonderful training program.

Where did you gain the most experience?

I was with Zano Salons for over 10 years and am still friends with many of my managers and co-workers.

Who are some of your favorite mentors or teachers?

Brenda was one of my teachers at Hanover Park. She has a world of knowledge and such fun stories from all her experience.

My Dad is my greatest example of what hard work and dedication is. He loves what he does and it shows through his work. He has built his business from the ground up. While I was building my business I had the chance to work for him part time. His honesty, integrity and the way he treats everyone who walks through his door is what I admire the most.

What inspired you to create Skin101?

Simply, I just knew I wouldn’t be happy until I worked for myself where I could do my own thing.

What do you look for when hiring someone or renting space?

Personality! Passionate about Skincare! Outgoing! Kindness and Customer Care! A bit of business savvy doesn't hurt either.

What do you think are some of your best services?

Waxing is definitely top-notch. We have many regulars.
Facials are very popular too. Customers see such amazing results sometimes instantly. Organics are great as are Eminence and PCA (peels/medical).

Describe some of your favorite customers.

Honestly, so many have become friends. That’s what makes our day! It’s like a gathering, reunion, or coffee with a friend every day around here. There isn’t a day I don’t want to go to work – and it’s because of our customers. Not everyone can say that, so I am very grateful.
